This is the 1 Thing You Need for a Fresh Start
In work or life
So you’re telling me that you peaked in college when you were Panhel president, and now that you’re in your late 20s or 30s, it’s too late to start fresh and do something new with your career?
👁️👄👁️ Look at me– get a hold of yourself!!
You might even think back on certain jobs, projects, or life events you’ve had and think, "What was the point of all that? It has nothing to do with what I do now."
Every experience you've had, every challenge you've faced, and every skill you've acquired has contributed to your personal growth and professional development.
Dr. Meg Jay, a clinical psychologist and author of The Defining Decade, introduced this concept as Identity Capital.
It refers to the collection of personal “assets” we acquire through life experiences—skills, knowledge, relationships, and personal qualities—that help us move forward and shape our future. Identity capital is built through every choice we make, every risk we take, and every lesson we learn, no matter how big or small.
Think of Identity Capital like a savings account.
Every experience—whether it’s a job, a hobby, a relationship, or a challenge—deposits something into that account.
You may not always see the return immediately, but over time, these “investments” compound and create a foundation you can draw from at any point.
Let’s take a peek into my own Identity Capital savings account, shall we?
